Abby Kent, DNP, PMHNP-BC
Dr. Abby Kent, DNP, PMHNP-BC is a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner who treats children, adolescents, and adults. She has an integrative and family-centered approach to care and believes all aspects of a person’s life affect one’s wellbeing. She works closely with other physicians, therapists, teachers, and guidance counselors when appropriate. Conditions primarily treated include mood disorders, anxiety disorders, ADHD, PTSD, substance abuse. She has a special interest in military mental health and pediatric mental health.
Dr. Kent has worked in the mental health field for almost ten years. After graduating from Villanova University with her BSN, she went on to work with mental health patients of all ages. She started her career working on inpatient psychiatric units with patients experiencing substance abuse and acute mental health issues. After this, she was fortunate enough to work for a military hospital on an inpatient Active Duty and Family Member psychiatric unit. Finally, she found her love of pediatric mental health and worked on the inpatient child and adolescent psychiatric unit at the Medical University of South Carolina for multiple years. During this time, she completed her Doctorate of Nursing in Psychiatric Mental Health at MUSC. She believes that mental health issues treated in younger years can help pave the way for a brighter future.
